It’s that time of year again. As well as a time to look back with gratitude for God’s grace, it is a time to look forward to the year before us. One way to look forward to the coming year is with a desire to make the most of the year. That often takes the form of resolutions. Such pre-decided commitments can be valuable. One vital commitment is the plan to spend time in God’s Word on a consistent basis.
There are many helps to read through the Bible profitably. I have enjoyed using the M’Cheyne system. M’Cheyne’s plan mixes portions of the Bible for each day and reads through the New Testament twice. Last year I tried the Chronological approach and enjoyed it immensely. By reading the Bible chronologically it helped to see the various portions of the Bible in their historical context. This year Barb and I plan to use the MacArthur Daily Bible. MacArthur’s work has a pretty standard blend of Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs for each day. It also includes some helpful notes for each day.
There are many systems to Bible reading. I would encourage you to choose one and plan to use it consistently. Terrell Bible Church has a page with links to some helpful resources. Also, I have posted links to various plans in the past.
May you have a blessed year.
